Baby Bee Born

My husband became a beekeeper and as part of that we do regular hive inspections to check for pests.

We got to experience a sighting that can be easily missed at our last hive inspection – seeing a baby bee born and come out of the honeycomb!!  Such an exciting event!

Baby bees are born fully formed and ready to go.  They start off life straight into it by going out of the hive and doing what’s called orientation flights to get their bearings of where the hive is.

If it’s a female bee then they are pretty much put straight to work collecting pollen and making honey.

If it’s a male bee, after their orientation flights, they go into the hive and hangout while the females do all the hard work.
